Android application
A mobile interface built with React Native to make waste classification accessible on an Android phone.
Software development / AI & mobile
An Android application built with React Native that uses a trained AI model to classify waste images directly on the device and can be used by municipal authorities to view reported waste classification results, exploring how mobile AI can support waste identification and segregation.
01 / Overview
This project combines mobile application development with image-based machine learning to explore automated waste classification. And the application is designed to be used by municipal authorities to view reported waste classification results. And it pinpoints the location of the waste on the map, allowing authorities to take appropriate action.
The model was trained using a dataset obtained from Kaggle with TensorFlow and Keras. Model inference runs directly on the Android phone, allowing the application to produce predictions on-device.
02 / Features
An image-driven workflow built around on-device prediction.
A mobile interface built with React Native to make waste classification accessible on an Android phone.
A trained machine learning model processes waste images and predicts a classification.
The application takes an image as input and presents the predicted waste category to the user.
The project explores how image classification can support waste identification and segregation.
03 / Workflow
Provide a waste image to the Android application.
The application runs model inference directly on the phone.
The predicted waste category is displayed in the app.
On-device inference: The application runs the trained model directly on the Android device, ensuring that user data remains private and that predictions can be made.
